After Twenty-Five: Booking Bali

No? You’re not alone. It’s term commonly used at lululemon when talking about goals but the term was originally presented in the book “Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies.”

So what the heck is a BHAG?

Basically, a BHAG is a BIG (maybe even your biggest) goal designed to push you towards your ideal future. They usually aren’t the little “goals” like “drink eight glasses of water a day”but instead the game changers. Think: your ultimate career, the adventure of a life time, being a professional athlete. BIG, wonderful, crazy, make-your-skin-crawl-with-excitement goals. BHAGs are the stuff dreams are made of, but unlike dreams, BHAGs are about taking action and making incredible things happen.

Now you’re probably thinking “Well Lauren, that’s fine and dandy but why do I need to know this?”

Well first of all, this site is all about goals, making the term BHAG a pretty darn important thing to note. Not to mention it’s kind of fun to say {it’s pronounced B-Hag}.

Yes, most of the goals on my list aren’t necessarily BHAGs but a couple of them are and guess what?

I CRUSHED ONE OF THEM AND BOOKED A TRIP TO BALI!

That’s right guys, come October 27th 2016 I will be leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again ♫. Just kidding, I am going for 6 weeks which still feels like a pretty epic amount of time.

Bali has been top of my list for quite awhile. I don’t know what it is about it. There is just such a draw. It seems like everytime I see a beautiful picture it’s been taken in Bali. I’ve never met anyone who had been and didn’t fall in love.

It’s stunning green rice paddies, rolling hills, crashing waves, endless beaches, and lovely people are just a few of the many reasons Bali is calling my name.

I mean it’s called “Island of the Gods,” you can’t really compete with that kind of nickname.

For years, fear has held me back from booking the tickets. I was so afraid of the unknown. Afraid of having to quit my job, of having no money, or not being able to pay the rent. I was afraid of all the stories my brain could possibly come up with.

This fear lead to excuse after excuse:
“It’s too expensive to get there”
“I only want to go if we’re going for a long time. It’s too far otherwise”
“I can’t afford it”
“We need to plan way in advanced”
“When we go I want to travel to all the places surrounding Bali too”
“It’s not the right time”
“blah..Blah…BLAH”

My fear held me back from this beautiful adventure for so long until Matt stumbled upon a wicked seat sale through Flight Centre. Believe me when I say this deal was WAY too good to pass up. I realized it was now or never. If I didn’t bite the bullet and book the tickets at such an insane price I probably never would.

So I did something impulsive…

And we booked it. #mattandlaurendobali
